A birth chart without a birth time
You can get most of a chart without a birth time. What you cannot get is the Rising sign and the houses — and no honest calculator will pretend otherwise.
What you still get
Your Sun sign is settled by the date alone. So, in almost every case, is your Moon sign — the Moon holds a sign for about two and a half days, so only a birthday within a few hours of a transition is genuinely ambiguous.
Mercury, Venus and Mars move slowly enough that the date is nearly always sufficient, and the outer planets change sign so rarely that a birth time is irrelevant to them. In practice you can read most of a chart’s planetary positions without a clock.
What you genuinely lose
The Ascendant, and with it the houses. The Rising sign changes roughly every two hours, so without a time there are twelve possible answers and no basis for choosing between them.
Because whole sign houses are anchored to the Rising sign, losing the Ascendant also removes the answer to "which area of life" each planet occupies. You keep what the planets are doing and lose where they are doing it.
How to find your birth time
A long-form birth certificate lists it in many countries, though the short form often does not. Hospital records are the next place to look, and in several countries the civil registry holds a time even when the certificate you were issued omits it.
Failing that, a parent’s memory narrowed to a two-hour window is sometimes enough to rule out most of the possibilities, even if it cannot confirm one.

- Will this site calculate a chart without a birth time?
- Yes. The calculator runs without a time, returns your Sun and Moon, and states plainly that the Rising could not be determined rather than filling it in with a guess.
- Does noon work as a substitute?
- It is the standard convention for the Moon and planets and is accurate for the great majority of birthdays. It does not help with the Ascendant at all — a noon chart’s Rising sign is an artefact of the convention, not a result.
