Questions people ask first

Can you get a birth chart without your birth time?

Yes. Say so in the quiz and your Sun and Moon are still calculated exactly. Only the Rising sign is left out, because it depends on the time. We also tell you when a placement sits near a boundary and could fall either way.

How do I find my rising sign?

You need the time you were born, to the nearest few minutes, and where. The Rising sign — the Ascendant — moves about a degree every four minutes, which is why it is the one placement a birthday alone cannot give you.

What is my big three?

Your Sun, Moon and Rising signs. The Sun is the part most people already know; the Moon is the private, reactive part; the Rising is the version other people meet first. This calculator returns all three, with the exact degree of each.

What is a birth chart?

A map of the sky for one moment: where every planet stood, in which sign, seen from where you were born. Planets are what is at work, signs are how it behaves, houses are the area of life it turns up in.

Is this real astronomy?

The positions are. Planetary longitudes are computed from an ephemeris in your browser, to the degree and minute, using the tropical zodiac and whole sign houses. The interpretation is for reflection, not prediction.

Who wrote the readings?

The positions are calculated. The interpretations are a fixed library of text, drafted with a language model and edited before publication — one passage per sign, per theme. They are chosen by your placements, not composed fresh for you.
